Inspiration

Jackie was greatly inspired by her parents who were both outstanding maths educators. Her father, Dr Laurie Buxton, who worked in the profession as a teacher and the inspectorate for the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) for over 30 years. He also wrote many articles and books about maths with a focus on getting people interested in maths and overcoming fears of the subject. His book 'Do you panic about maths?' (Heinemann Educational Books, 1981) was based on research for his doctorate, and with typical humour he boasted that he was the only person to produce the book before the thesis.

Her Mother, Pam Buxton was head of the Maths department at East Barnet School and went on to mentor newly qualified Maths teachers at the Institute of Education.
